Why you're really here
Understand the real reason you chose your field, and decide what to do with that truth.

Lesson two. Why you're really here. Understand the real reason you chose your field, and decide what to do with that truth. There's usually a reason under the reason you chose your field. Sometimes it's approval: someone you wanted to make proud. Sometimes it's deeper: a feeling you want to create for others, often one you once needed yourself. Both are human, and both can be true at once. Finding the real one sets you free: you can keep what you love about your work, and let go of the rest. Why it matters. When the reason under the reason is yours, you stop working for approval and start working as service. For example. A landscaper loves seeing the neighborhood clean and cared for. Maybe he grew up where no one took care of anything. A house cleaner brings calm and order. Maybe she grew up in chaos. An accountant helps families feel safe. Maybe he watched his parents fight about money. A physician makes patients feel heard. Maybe she watched a parent get dismissed by doctors. A teacher makes sure no child feels invisible. Maybe she was the overlooked kid in the back row. Where this leads. It gives your expression its why: the feeling you want people to leave with. Hold on to this. There's always a reason under the reason. When you find it, it sets you free.

It gives your expression its why: the feeling you want people to leave with.
Most people never stop to ask why they ended up in their field. A parent suggested it. It paid well. It seemed respectable. When you look closer, one of two things usually happens.
You chose it for approval. Sometimes the honest answer is "I did this so someone would be proud of me." The signs: wins feel empty soon after, you need praise to keep going, you'd stop if no one was watching, you still picture a parent's reaction at each milestone. There's no shame here. Choosing for approval was often how you belonged or stayed safe. But now it's time to be honest with yourself. Life is short, and you deserve to live in a way that feels true to you. Being honest doesn't mean quitting tomorrow. It may mean keeping what you love and letting go of the rest.
There's a deeper reason. Look past the task and find the feeling you create for others. That feeling is your real service. Often it's a wish to build something better than what you found.
Something lived, a gift for others
A landscaper loves seeing the neighborhood clean and cared for.
Maybe he grew up where no one took care of anything.
A house cleaner brings calm and order.
Maybe she grew up in chaos.
An accountant helps families feel safe.
Maybe he watched his parents fight about money.
A physician makes patients feel heard.
Maybe she watched a parent get dismissed by doctors.
A teacher makes sure no child feels invisible.
Maybe she was the overlooked kid in the back row.
In each case, something lived became a gift for others, and a better world for the people they serve. Many people find it's both: they came for approval, and something real grew inside the work anyway.
Every one has been made for some particular work, and the desire for that work has been put into his heart.
In plain words
Each of us is made for certain work, and the pull toward it is already inside us.
For this lesson
The reason under the reason is that desire. This lesson helps you find it.
